THE BIG BLACK DOG (DEPRESSION)

The Big Black Dog (Depression)

When a big black dog sits on your head

It’s extremely hard to get out of bed

When you do get up and flop in a chair

He sits on your feet to keep you there

The experts say, the thing to do

Is to get some fresh air and exercise too

But how do I get the dog to shift

So that I can try and get my mood to lift

With force of will and a few false starts

The big black dog and I start to play our parts

And go for a walk, and what do you know

I start to feel better, not nearly so low

When we get back home and I sit in my chair

I can’t see the dog, but I know he’s there

He’s around the corner, just out of sight

Will he come back? I think he might.
