Spent yesterday on another epic fishing trip with my lil brother, Jason. It was a Totally ridiculous day where we caught between 200 -300 fish between us ! In the first hour I caught 67 roach alone, they were like Japanese kamikaze fish, basically throwing themselves on my hook as soon as it hit the water! In the end I decided to change my bait from maggots to bread, just to slow down my strike rate… I was exhausted.
Still the fish came, but now it was a series of decent carp between 5- 10 lbs each. It was so easy fishing, I was free lining with just a hook, like Huckleberry Finn.
My brother was doing exactly the same, changing from maggots to bread and back again, so switching from silverfish to carp and back again, just to change it up. At one point whilst pulling in the fish pictured above, his reel snapped in half, and he had to pull it in by hand, wrapping the line around his hand as he pulled the monster in. Given that his reel had broke, he tied a fixed line to his rod… Big mistake! Before he knew it his rod shot off across the lake, like a speedboat, eventually mooring itself on the island opposite.
I asked him what happened to his rod, he said,
“It ended up on Amityville Island along with Jaws, who took it.”
All in all a terrific day! I was absolutely exhausted by the end of the day…
Bringing us back from the euphoria of out trip, I received a phone call from my daughter, her car had broke down and her mother, my ex, had been told that her Father had taken a turn for the worse and was not expected to recover from the covid virus.
