I’LL WAIT?

I’LL WAIT OR

DEGRADATION OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE BY MEME MENTALITY.

I’ve just noticed this ‘ I’ll wait’ meme at the end of everyone’s very clever little vignettes evoking writers such as Orwell, Beckett et al, and I realised a very pertinent point, these people actually think that this makes them look cool and/or intelligent. I’m here to dissuade you of that misconception. It makes you look DUMB! IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A MEMBER OF A HERD, NOT ONE OF THE COOL KIDS! There I’ve said it.

This is not the only phrase I find absolutely unconscionable, there are too many to list extensively, because I do not use such ready-made put-downs myself, but here a few that bring bile into the back of my throat:

  1. SO… – PEOPLE WHO START EVERY SENTENCE WITH SO, FOR EXAMPLE, ” SO, I COME FROM LONDON…YEAH, AND WORK IN GRAPHICAL MIS-USE OF THE LANGUAGE RIGHT?” OK I ADDED TWO EXTRA PEEVES IN WITH THE SO, I.E. YEAH, AND RIGHT… GOOD GRIEF!
  2. KAREN – Karen is a slang term that is used to typify a woman perceived to be entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is considered appropriate or necessary. JUST SO WEAK.
  3. OK BOOMER – “OK Boomer” is a catchphrase and meme that gained popularity among teenagers and young adults in November 2019, used to dismiss or mock attitudes stereotypically attributed to the baby boomer generation. TO LOCK A WHOLE GENERATION INTO A SINGLE STEREO-TYPE IS JUST SO LAZY.

There are a lot more of these easy flatulent phrases which demean the person saying them more than it belittles their targets, but I can’t be bothered to find them and point them out. my advice is : DON’T! DON’T DO THAT, IF YOU WANT TO LOOK CLEVER, THINK FOR YOURSELF, BE CLEVER WITH YOUR OWN WORDS AND PHRASES…

AND REMEMBER THIS – PUNK WAS ALREADY DEAD WHEN IT HIT THE MAINSTREAM!

YOU ARE DOING LINGUISTICALLY WHAT YOU DID WITH TAMAGOTCHIS, WITH FURBIES, WITH HULA HOOPS, WITH BEANIE BABIES…ETC YOU ARE JUST JOINING THE HERD. BE BETTER THAN THAT.

DALE M

P.S. I’M AWARE MY CAPITALISING OF WORDS WILL ANNOY YOU…

GOOD!
