BLACK LIVES DON’T JUST MATTER THEY ARE ESSENTIAL TO OUR SOCIETY!
In the city of my birth, Birmingham, England, there is a massively cultural and ethnic diversity, of which I am proud and feel is a blessing. This cultural and ethnic diversity has changed this city from a provincial and insular back water, previously famous for metal working industries… I myself started out my adult life as a diamond setter in the jewellery trade! From that background this city has blossomed into a place renowned for ethnic cuisine, multi- cultural music, celebrated the world over and a back bone of hard working colonial migrants who have overwhelmingly created the NHS of which we are rightly proud .
The biggest influence they have had on our society is not their difference but the reality that they are every bit as valuable to our culture as any white person! What we need to recognise is not the differences which we highlight, ie colour, ethnicity, but the fact they are a part of us… there is no them, they are us and we are them…Each of us is diverse, each of us has something which could single us out as different, be it colour, sex, orientation, political leanings, blond hair, blue eyes… the differences are always a singularity which does not in anyway change our humanity.
Black lives are essential as are female lives, gay lives, ginger lives… or what ever, and until we venerate every life , we will never evolve to the next level.
